Prof. Fergal O'Brien is Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation and member of the Senior Management Team in RCSI, Deputy Director of the Research Ireland AMBER Centre. He is a leading innovator in the development of advanced biomaterials and medical devices for tissue repair publishing over 300 journal articles and graduating over 60 PhD students. He has translated a number of regenerative technologies to the clinic through spin-out company formation and licensing to industry. He is a recipient of numerous awards including a €3 million Advanced Grant from the European Research Council, fellowship of the Irish Academy for Engineering, membership of the Royal Irish Academy and the 2023 Marshall R. Urist, MD Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society for the career contribution to musculoskeletal research.
