Biography

Dr James Quinn is a registered and practising pharmacist (MPSNI) who completed both his MPharm and PhD at Queen’s University Belfast. He has extensive experience teaching across UK and Irish MPharm programmes, having held academic positions at Queen’s University Belfast and Trinity College Dublin, as well as serving as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). In 2024, he was awarded the Dean’s Merit Award at Trinity College Dublin for his Outstanding Contribution to Teaching in Professional Practice.

His teaching spans clinical pharmacy, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), medicines optimisation, professional practice, experiential learning, and sustainability and planetary health, with a strong emphasis on student-centred, practice-informed learning. His research interests focus on sustainable healthcare, pharmacy practice and education, and the translation of these areas into the safe and effective use of medicines in real-world settings. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, accrued over 600 citations, and has won prizes for presentations at national and international conferences in pharmacy practice and biomaterials research.

He is currently a Lecturer in Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences at RCSI and at the International College for Pharmaceutical Innovation, Soochow University (SUDA), Suzhou, China.
