Summary: A landmark industry forum, a first-of-its-kind national talent program, and a Nature-portfolio breakthrough by two undergraduates—inside ICPI's breakout summer.

1. The Convening Power: A Forum That Put Suzhou on the Innovation Map

On July 11, 2026 the International College of Pharmaceutical Innovation (ICPI) at Soochow University co-hosted the "Bringing Minds Together at Soochow University to Shape the Future of Pharmaceutical Innovation" forum, a flagship event under the 18th Suzhou International Elite Entrepreneurship Week.

Experts and scholars from across China and the world gathered to tackle the questions that define the future of medicine such as: How do we accelerate cutting-edge technology development? How do we deepen collaboration among industry, academia and research institutions? And how do we move breakthrough science from the lab bench to the patient's bedside?

A centerpiece of the event was the presentation of comprehensive policies from Soochow University and Suzhou Industrial Park, which aim to provide a full-chain support system designed to attract top talent and fuel innovation and entrepreneurship at every stage, from first idea to full-scale venture. Participants engaged in concrete opportunities for cooperation, and the forum further cemented ICPI's strong and growing reputation as a bridge between world-class research and one of China's most vibrant biopharmaceutical clusters.

The message was clear: Suzhou is not simply an excellent place to study pharmacy but also an ideal place to build a bright and rewarding future.

2. The Pipeline: A National Talent Program, Built in Suzhou

Great ecosystems need great talent. In mid-July, 2026 ICPI helped launch the first-ever Suzhou Program for Industry-University Collaboration in Training Pharmaceutical Talent. This is a program that reads like a Who's Who of Chinese higher education.

The inaugural cohort brought 66 students from seven of China's most prestigious universities, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Soochow University. For these participating students, the summer provided a full immersion into the exciting field of innovative Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The students received helpful information and viewed the operational inner workings at leading innovators including Ascentage Pharma, Corning Advanced Flow Pharmaceutical Technology, MegaRobo, Abogen Biotech and Innovent Biologics by touring R&D facilities and engaging directly with senior technical executives. They gained rare, firsthand insight into the full arc of innovative drug development and into emerging fields such as intelligent technologies and mRNA therapeutics that are rewriting what is possible in pharmaceutical sciences.

Visits to the Suzhou Industrial Park Planning Exhibition Hall, BioBAY and LifeBay rounded out the program with a comprehensive view of how Suzhou's advanced biopharmaceutical ecosystem evolved and where it's headed over the next decade.

Dean Zhiyuan Zhong reaffirmed ICPI's firm commitment to closing the gap between classroom and career: "We will continue to advance industry-education integration, helping pharmacy students make the critical leap from learning to application."

The first Suzhou Program for Industry-University Collaboration in Training Pharmaceutical Talent provided a solid foundation, a wonderful experience to students and a springboard to further expand and strengthen the collaboration between academia-industry-government and ICPI intends to significantly scale it in the future.

3. The Proof: Two Undergraduates, One Nature Portfolio Journal

If you want to know whether a College's research culture is real, look at what its youngest students are able to accomplish.

Zihan Zhang and Xuezhou Zhao, pharmacy undergraduates in the 2024 ICPI cohort, independently completed a high-level research paper that was published in Communications Chemistry, a Nature Portfolio journal, under the guidance of Professor Dan Wu's research team.

Their paper, "MolDualNet as a multi-modal architecture for small-data analog-space molecular property prediction," tackles a challenge at the very heart of AI-driven drug discovery, which is to make accurate molecular property predictions when training data is scarce. Their excellent research work was published open access on July 28, 2026.

It marks the first independently authored Nature portfolio paper by ICPI undergraduates. This represents a significant milestone that speaks volumes about the ICPI's research culture and its ability to nurture student engagement and talent early.

For industry partners, the signal is unmistakable and affirms that ICPI students are highly motivated and well trained to immediately contribute to the cutting edge science that will define the next decade of drug discovery.

4. The Application: When AI Meets Market Regulation

Innovation does not stop at the laboratory door. On July 13–14, 2026 ICPI partnered with the Wujiang District Market Supervision and Administration Bureau to launch the 2026 "Artificial Intelligence + Market Regulation" Summer Practice Program.

The opening ceremony and intensive training sessions kicked off a hands-on initiative designed to cultivate regulatory professionals with interdisciplinary expertise. Students were sent to the frontlines of local market regulation, where they applied their academic knowledge to real-world challenges, sharpening both their professional skills and their ability to serve their communities.

It is a powerful example of how ICPI is deepening university-government-industry-research collaboration while training the versatile talent that modern regulatory systems demand. In a field where AI is rapidly transforming how medicines are reviewed, approved and monitored, ICPI is making sure its students are well trained and ready to significantly contribute.

Summary - The Bigger Picture

Over the summer of 2026 ICPI played a leading role in launching: 1) A forum that convenes the world, 2) A national program that pipelines the best talent, 3) A research breakthrough by two undergraduates and 4) A regulatory initiative that puts AI to work in the public interest.

These are remarkable achievements and demonstrate the growing stature and influence of ICPI. They are the building blocks of an innovation engine that connects industry with talent, accelerates the commercialization of research, and positions Suzhou as a global force in biopharmaceuticals.

ICPI, its faculty and students are actively shaping the future of biopharmaceuticals in Suzhou and the world.
